Who is Eligible

The Working Holiday Program is part of Canada’s International Experience Canada (IEC) program. Eligibility depends on your nationality and age:

Country of Citizenship

You must be from a country that has a bilateral youth mobility agreement with Canada (e.g., Australia, New Zealand, UK, France, Germany, Ireland, Japan, South Korea, and many more partner countries). Currently, citizens of these countries can apply to live, work, and travel in Canada under this program.

  • If your country is not on the list, you may still apply through a recognized organization (RO).

Age

Typically between 18 and 30 years old (some countries extend to 35).

Other Requirements

  • Other Requirements:
  • Valid passport for the duration of your stay
  • Sufficient funds (usually at least CAD $2,500 at entry)
  • Health insurance for your entire stay
  • No dependents (you cannot bring children with you on this visa)
  • Return ticket or proof of funds to buy one
  • Police clearance and medical exam (in some cases)

Duration

  • Usually valid for 12 months, sometimes 24 months depending on your country of citizenship.
  • Some nationalities can apply more than once (e.g., Australians can do multiple rounds).
